Enough is Enough!BellSouth has proven that it is less than a good corporate citizen of Lafayette and Louisiana. At every turn they've shown little respect for the process of democratic decision-making --and less for the people of our communities. The history of this fight is embarrassingly clear: broken promises, lies and a clear campaign of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt marred BellSouth's relationship with its customers. No one can argue with the history of multiple push polls, a deceptive "academic forum" featuring industry "academics," insinuations that BellSouth would pull its Cingular call center jobs from Lafayette or take a donated building away from New Orleans. Disdainful remarks about how foolish people were for wanting fiber cast doubt on the intelligence of their customers and revealed their dishonesty, since BellSouth was already thoroughly committed to a fiber-based future (beginning, of course, in other areas). When their attempt to sneak a law that would prevent cities from building their own systems collapsed, BellSouth appeared to compromise. But then they turned around in the next legislative session to try to get a bit more. Finally, having lost the election here that they demanded, they have engaged in a series of legal challenges that have lost and lost and lost... but have gained them time and cost the people of Lafayette time and money. BellSouth needs to mend its ways. Their current behavior is intolerable. They claim to have a code of ethics that binds them to good behavior. Let's hold them to it.. If you'd like the people of Lousiana to be free to go about their own business without intereference, please consider writing Duane Ackerman to let him know that you think good citizenship is good business. (Joey Durel has given us a great example.)
Or if you'd rather talk to the board of directors, those guys who are supposed to provide guidance and oversight, you could try:

Don't miss our other opportunities: Note The Vote... Help us spread the word! We hope you'll pass the Christmas carols on to all your friends and colleagues. We'd be grateful if you'd express your own feeling about BellSouth's inability to "note the vote." by including a note in those emails urging your friends to pass them on and express their displeasure with the incumbents. Please send them a link to the Action Page so they can join in the fun in their own way. (http://lafayetteComingTogether.org/Act.htm) Repeal!... If spreading the word was fun but somehow not completely satisfying, you might want to join us in urging our state senators and representatives to repeal the law recently passed in the legislature that BellSouth is using to keep us spending money, time, and energy fighting to keep what we've already voted for. Go to our Repeal! page for more information and your legislators' addresses.
